Three Things To Consider Before You Buy Kitchen Nook Furniture

Generally, the footprints of affordable homes are shrinking and we as homeowners want to use every square inch effectively. One of the most popular ways to do so is to make use of kitchen nook furniture and in this article we look at three things to consider when you are planning a nook in your kitchen. A nook is defined as a corner, alcove or recess in a room. It is hard to defy the statement that the kitchen is the heart of the home.

When deciding where you want to create the nook you should consider the following aspects, which may limit your choices. What do you want to use the space for? Nooks give you the opportunity to create a multiple use space. If designed properly you can use the seating to give you storage for all those extra bits that is cluttering your kitchen. You could for example store your outside soft furnishings in winter or bulk groceries.

Children may be encouraged to use the area for their homework or as a play area where parents can keep an eye and be involved in what they are busy with. Depending on whether you need it, you can also use your kitchen nook as an informal dining space especially if you have dining room furniture that is more suitable to formal use.

How big is the area available? What space do you have that can be used or even re-configured to create the nook? You may have a breakfast bar which is too high and impractical which could be removed and a nook created in its place. The ideal opportunity for creating a nook is when you are refurbishing the kitchen or building a new home.

Once you have decided what you want to use the nook for you can calculate how much space you would ideally want to make available and where it will be positioned to make optimal use of the space you have set aside in your planning. You may have to compromise on the size of the nook or possibly other areas in your kitchen. Ultimately, you have to decide how your kitchen will be used most efficiently to suit your family’s needs.

What type of furniture would you like to use? The nook could be an L-shape configuration, which allows you to place seating on three sides of the area. If you have a smaller space, you may be limited to only two benches or a number of chairs placed diagonally across from each other on either side of the table. Benches give you more space than individual chairs and are of course an ideal item to use as additional storage. A window seat is always a bonus as it allows light into the area and can be an attractive focus point.

If you have limited space, you may have to use a rectangular table and fix it to a wall. A larger kitchen would allow you to consider a round table as it encourages conversation and will break the monotony of angular furniture in the nook and the kitchen in general.

The materials and finishings used will depend largely on the overall design of your kitchen, as you want to incorporate the nook into your kitchen and not make it stick out like a sore thumb or look as though it was an afterthought.

Whatever shape or size you are considering, you will be able to find kitchen nook furniture to use in your design that will make the area suitable for the purpose it has been created for.
