Your kitchen is the one room in your house that everyone will use at some time during the day. If you are fortunate to be able to create a proper window seat or position a bench against a wall, you will be able to turn it into the focal point of your design. Benches are useful as they provide more seating space, but individual chairs give you more flexibility in your seating arrangements.
Deciding on the size, style and shape of the table will also depend on the position of the area. In a more confined rectangular shaped area, you would use a rectangular table and may even have to fix one short end of the table against a wall or the windowsill. A round table is more suitable to a larger space and has the added advantage of being conducive to conversation between everyone around it.
Storage space is always a welcome in any home, regardless of how big it is. If you are incorporating benches or a window seat in your area, consider buying units that have storage space or the potential for storage. Benches are available with a box type seat that has a removable or lifting lid and others have built in drawers. Traditionally, window seats have been designed with similar storage solutions in mind.
